What does body temperature has to do with MS?

Body temperature is one of those key elements you should be concerned with whenever you experience that sudden and without warning lack of energy that so often takes over the bodies of us MSers.

Even after these many years living and dealing with multiple sclerosis, it still amazes me to watch and feel how my body changes depending on my body’s temperature.

I don’t remember how it feels to take a nice and relaxing hot shower. I used to love a really steaming hot shower. That wonderful sensation of water and warmth running down my muscles, through my neck and back. I’m sure some of you can relate to what I’m describing here. But that was before Multiple Sclerosis (MS) of course.

We must clearly understand that the signals our brain is constantly sending to all parts of our bodies need to move fast and without interruptions.

To accomplish this, every nerve in our bodies is covered with a protective sheath called myelin.

Click on the following link to watch a video by the National MS Society that shows what happens in the central nervous system when a person has multiple sclerosis.

Now, what happen to us with MS is quite simple to understand. Picture, if you will, your nerves as being asphalt roads. Now imagine a whole bunch of pot holes all over a segment of that road. The same thing that happens to any vehicle traveling on that road happens to the signals sent by the brain. They slow down, sometimes moving at a snail's pace, avoiding the rough patches on the road.

Then as a result of this, a whole bunch of Multiple Sclerosis symptoms start to show up without any warning. I, for example, lose some of my coordinating abilities and my legs begin to weight more heavier as the minutes passed. What do I do when this happens, you asked?

I grab my easy-to-use and always ready to go: cooling vest

There are quite a few different types of cooling garments out there that you can use to lower your body temperature. Heck, I have seen them run with batteries and everything!. I figure that since the purpose was and still is to find relief fast from the fatigue caused by MS and return to perform normal tasks without trouble, a cooling vest that run on ice packs was the best choice.

Click right here to Watch a video demonstration and see how easy to use one is.
